Food Security in a Changing Climate
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAn Evening Presentation by Dr. Achim Dobermann, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines
Rice production employs more people than any other industry in Asia, and has been described as the single most important economic activity in the world. Some experts warn that rice production in the region could fall significantly due to climate change. Scientists forecast that Southeast Asian nations are likely to experience longer summers and more rainfall, with increased intensity during the monsoon season. How will climate change affect the dietary staple for millions of people? To what extent does global warming threaten rice production? How has scientific research improved food security?
