The bat has been a popular motif in Chinese arts and crafts, as the word 'bat' shares the same pronounciation with “good fortune and happiness” in Chinese. It is also popular in contemporary designs and pop culture. To encourage creativity and imagination, as well as to engage students in understanding the significance of the bat motif, an Interactive Design Workshop is organized by Asia Society Hong Kong Center. The workshop aims to offer local students in Hong Kong more insight from practicing designers. In collaboration with DFA Awards of Hong Kong Design Centre, two awardees of Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award are invited to conduct the design workshops. The speakers will share design concepts and skills in their respective design disciplines. It is hoped that the workshops could facilitate and inspire students in preparation for the Bat Motif Product Design Competition.
DFA Awards was launched in 2003 by Hong Kong Design Centre. It aims to underpin the role of designers in society and to celebrate design leadership and exemplary design in Asia, and to recognize the rising force of emerging Hong Kong designers. Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award (HKYDTA), one of the DFA Awards, aims to support and cultivate Hong Kong up-and-coming designers and design graduates aged 35 or below. Awardees may receive sponsorship to undergo overseas work attachment or study in renowned design companies or institutes to unleash their potential.
