A three-part performance program showcasing the best of both traditional and contemporary Korean performing arts. The Seoul Performing Arts Company, an organization affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will bring to the Asia Society Hong Kong Center stage a traditional Korean fan dance and Samulnori musical.
5 singers from mixed a cappella group, MayTree, will sing refined original tunes, demonstrating their unique tone color through delicate arrangements, powerful vocal drum and harmony. MayTree has been active since 2000 in concert halls, TV and radio shows, CD recording and education. In 2005, Maytree opened the world famous 'The Real Group' Concert in Sejong Center, Korea. MayTree is Korea’s only domestic a cappella group that has held 5 successful concerts in the Seoul Arts Center.
The concluding performance Flying is an exquisite meeting of performing arts and sports. It is a story about time-travelling goblins, warriors and monsters that help a group of cheerleaders become national champion. The performance cast includes former national athletics, with elements of rhythmic gymnastics, cheerleading, martial arts and B-boying. It has memorized audiences at the Gyeongju World Culture EXPO and was invited by Esplanade, Singapore. Flying is produced by Persona Inc., a creative group specializing in staging non-verbal Korean productions. Led by Director Chul-Ki CHOI, the creative team is also behind other popular productions such as Bibap.
