Gen A: India's Economy and Areas of Growth
VIEW EVENT DETAILSIn the second installment of our Generation Asia (Gen A) 2023 leadership program, Dilip Asbe, CEO, National Payments Corporation of India, will be in conversation with Richa Roy, cultural ambassador of Asia Society and partner, finance, insolvency and public policy practice, at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. They will discuss India's economy, its digital economy, and areas of economic growth. Does the United Payments Interface system create an example for state-and-private collaboration for financial infrastructures? Do payments in particular areas indicate growth, and can this model be extended to different sectors in India? Where is economic growth going to come from and where is India placed in its South Asian and global contexts? These are some of the questions we will explore in this one-hour interactive session.

Dilip Asbe has been the managing Director and CEO, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) since 2017. Prior to this post, he was chief operating officer, NPCI. He has played a pivotal role in designing, building, operationalisation and management of large scale innovative payments processing platforms like Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), Aadhaar-enabled Payment System (AePS), India’s home grown card network RuPay, and Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Some of the awards he holds include Business Line's Changemaker of the Year, for UPI; the Economic Times' Policy Change Agent of the Year award for UPI; the Financial Express Award in the Fintech category; the India Business Leader of the Year Award, for the 'disruptor' product of UPI; and the All India Management Association's Public Service Excellence Award.
Richa Roy is a lawyer specialising in finance and public policy. She is a partner in the Finance, Insolvency and Public Policy practice at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. She has been awarded the Chevening Gurukul Fellowship for Leadership and Excellence, by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office. Richa has served on government and regulatory committees on financial sector reform. Under the aegis of the Bankruptcy Law Reform Committee of the Government of India, she was instrumental in conceptualizing, drafting and implementing India’s Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016, a flagship reform of the current government. She is also currently advising the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India and Insurance and Regulatory Development Authority of India on legislative reform and regulatory development. Previously, Richa was part of the Reserve Bank of India Committee on Comprehensive Financial Services for Low Income Households and Small Businesses. She has represented banks and financial institutions on a range of complex restructuring, insolvency, bankruptcy and banking and international finance transactions. She has also been involved in bilateral trade discussions in the insolvency and bankruptcy and financial services sector.
