SPOTLIGHT: Philippine Cinema 2017 showcases five independent Filipino films in the genres of documentary, drama, short and road movie. These films revolve around numerous contemporary and historical issues from the Philippines, from the birth of the nation, war, the occupation and reconstruction, and reflection on family and identity, to the migration history between Japan and the Philippines and the struggle to make a living away from home.
This showcase promises to be a unique and delightful program in offering a chance for us to re-understand the Filipino culture which seems to be familiar and novel at the same time.
