About This Workshop
While living in France, Pan Yu-Lin integrated her roots in Chinese art into her oil paintings. Influenced by the bold and strong colors from Fauvism and the perspective of space construction from Abstract Expressionism, Pan’s works retain the concept of white space in Chinese paintings, while incorporating the expression of space, depth and light.

During the Open Studio, the educator will teach observation skills, working with lines, perspective and colors to create a still life drawing. Material available on site include drawing paper, sketching pencils, colored pencils, soft pastels, oil pastels and markers. Still life objects will also be provided.

About “A Taste of Art” Series
The Hong Kong Jockey Club presents Song of Spring: Pan Yu-Lin in Paris as the second instalment in its “20th Century Chinese Female Artist Series.” Belonging to the first generation of Chinese students to study fine arts in France, Pan Yu-Lin’s (1895-1977) distinctive style synthesized eastern and western sensibilities. She was also one of the first female art professors in modern China. With over 60 works of portraiture, nude, landscape, dance figure painting and sculpture, this exhibition explores Pan’s second period in Paris.

Sunday Open Studio Series invites visitors to be inspired by the exhibition and create their own art work in response to the works. Open Studio will run on four Sundays during the exhibition period, with each workshop dedicated to different themes. Basic art materials will be supplied and educators will be present to provide assistance. Participants are welcome to submit their finished art works to the Expressing Self - Inspired by Pan Yu-Lin art competition.
