Missing the days when we can travel around the world? Dinner for Eight provides the unique experience to the members of Asia Society Hong Kong Center to travel via their palates. Hosted by a staff of ASHK, the seven other participants will get to taste the specially designed menu for a delightful gastronomic experience. Part of ASHK’s Around Asia in 80 Days series, Dinner for Eight helps to showcase countries around Asia and bring you their wealth of culture through an “armchair travel” style.
Through these intimate dinners, we hope to foster a closer community and encourage participants to explore the hidden gems in the Hong Kong F&B industry. In addition to tasting authentic cuisine specially designed for this event, participants can share travel stories and network with fellow members. Indulge your taste buds while enjoying great conversations about the cuisine, arts, traditions and culture.

JULY 31: Enjoy fresh seafood on a sampan fishing boat
Before the 1990s, there was a fairly large population living on boats in typhoon shelters around Hong Kong. These are the descendants of fishermen or boat people, which created many distinct dishes iconic to Hong Kong, mainly Typhoon Shelter Crab. Throwback to the days in Old Hong Kong as you enjoy fresh seafood on a sampan fishing boat anchored at the typhoon shelter in Causeway Bay. With the retirement of Jumbo, this could be one of the last floating restaurants in Hong Kong.
You will get to savor on the fresh Hong Kong seafood cooked in the traditional style by the descendants of the boat people, including the authentic Typhoon shelter crab. Enjoy this unique dining experience where you can enjoy the slow swaying of the boat as you dine.
