Join us here at Asia Society Hong Kong Center to hear author Alvina Kwong read her children’s book “The Magic of Curiosity: Emily and Grandpa Explore Hong Kong”, followed by a fun illustration lesson that will focus on drawing local scenery and the eclectic transportation vehicles seen throughout Hong Kong.
Alvina Kwong was born in Hawaii and spent her childhood years there until her family moved to Southern California. Her parents are from Hong Kong so she visited many times throughout her childhood. Alvina always had a passion for drawing and illustrating and always dreamed of being an artist so she could share her ideas with everyone, especially children. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from Brigham Young University and has since been illustrating magazines and books, commissioned work and art licensing. Some of her illustrated publications include Ladybug Magazine, The Friend Magazine, “Maddy Lou and Mack at the State Fair of Texas” by Brown Books Kids, “Back to School with Mack” by Little Pumpkin Press, and “Rock a Bye Baby in Hawaii” by Beach House Publishing. Two of her recent books “Happy Trails with Abby and Taz” and “Lucas the Lion Loves the Tiny Talker” received awards from the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards. She has also been featured in Artist’s Magazine, Utah Valley Magazine, The Big Bear Grizzly Newspaper, and many more.
