After a year of turbulence and despite the general depression of the global economy, topics of Greater China and Asia-Pacific’s art market are still rapidly expanding. As we watch the region overtake the US to become the largest market share of public auction sales, Christie’s headline Non-Fungible Token (NFT) art piece selling for a record-breaking $69 Million USD to a Singaporean blockchain entrepreneur, and a record high of $12.4 Billion USD for online art sales. It’s about time to re-engage with innovative speakers and look to the future.

Join a focused live conversation with curators, cultural heads and gallerists on the major shifts in Hong Kong’s commercial spaces and positioning in recent years, and the growing number of local artists. We talk with the directors of leading Hong Kong galleries Jeannie Wu of HART, Jonny Davies of Flowers Gallery and Charles Fong of Rossi&Rossi — moderated by Bertha Chan, Artist and Founder of Drastic Social.

Jeannie Wu is an experienced Consultant with a Master of Arts focused in Literary & Cultural Studies from The University of Hong Kong, and a demonstrated history of working in the management consulting industry. In 2008, Wu started her career in the arts as an art administrator at Vermillion Art Collections allowed Wu to gain insight in depth into contemporary art collecting and connect closely with artists, in particular helping renowned local artist ‘Frog King’ to organise his studio. She actively engaged in various projects as Project Officer at Hong Kong Arts Centre such as ‘Hong Kong Short Film: New Action Express’. Wu then further expanded and consolidated her network within the local art scene during her freelance work supporting the artist-run initiative Painting On and On. After 4 years of working as Personal Assistant to collector/consultant/curator William Zhao, Wu took up key positions at K11 Art Foundation as Acting Cultural Manager and now, HART Collective as Director to lead within the art and cultural industry, break boundaries and connect creative talents within the network.

Jonny Davies is the director of Flowers Galley in Hong Kong, setting up the Asia business after working for the gallery in both London and New York for over a decade. After studying at the Chelsea School of Art in London as a practitioner his focus shifted to the commercial aspects of running a gallery.

Charles Fong is currently a director at Rossi&Rossi, after graduating with a degree in Microbiology from the University of Hong Kong, Charles took a dive into the art world. While working for Wellington Gallery and PARKVIEW ART Hong Kong, he completed his Masters in Sociology, specifically examining the development of Hong Kong’s art gallery ecosystem from the 1980s with an socio economics perspective. Having great interest in understanding the role of art in different cultures, Charles aims to contextualize art through different means of storytelling.

Bertha Chan (Moderator) is an artist, writer, curator and producer, a multifaceted creator in the field of art, culture and music. As a high school drop out from a working class background, she is an advocate for equality, accessibility and intersectionality on all fronts.

Bertha is based between Hong Kong, Bergen and Vienna — it’s in these cities where she brings her passion for curation and cultural change to — founding social enterprise DrasticSocial.com and body positivity platform Curvasian.com. To top, her portfolio continues to grow as she partners with and models for groups as Nike, Womanizer, and Luuna Naturals to empower women to be more accepting of their bodies in the name of self-love.
