Associate Director - Business Development
Full-time, $110,000 (plus superannuation)
Asia Society Australia seeks an experienced and well-networked business development leader with an established track record of fundraising and building strong and enduring relations with key stakeholders from government, business and the diplomatic community.
The Associate Director, Business Development will lead the development and implementation of business development and partnership strategies to grow the Asia Society Australia centre in Melbourne, and manage key relations with major partners, supporters and stakeholders in Victoria and nationally.
As Associate Director, Business Development at Asia Society Australia, you will join a leading business and policy think-tank and membership organisation with a dedicated focus on Asia and Australia’s place in the region. We offer world-class expertise and programming on Asia and Australia-Asia relations, and are supported by Australia's largest network of business, government and education organisations active in Asia. Asia Society Australia is a centre of Asia Society - a global organisation with 16 locations across four continents.
Key Duties:
- Lead the development and implementation of business development strategies to grow corporate membership, raise and diversify revenue base, and build awareness and profile in Victoria and nationally
- Secure funding from government, corporate sector and philanthropy to support organisational growth, and major annual programming initiatives and policy projects
- Manage relations with major partners and members in Victoria, including the Victorian Government and RMIT University, in close collaboration with the CEO and heads of ASA portfolios
- Support the engagement at the Asia Trade and Innovation Hub through member and stakeholder relations
- Work collaboratively with the CEO, Executive Director, Sydney and Asia Society Australia team to deliver a valued and seamless membership service and engagement experience
- Work collaboratively with Asia Society’s global development team to leverage Asia Society’s global brand, profile and network in Australia
- Other duties as required by the Organisation
Selection Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Communications, International Studies or related field.
- Minimum 5 years + experience in relevant roles in business, government, education or not-for-profit sector
- Excellent relationship-development and management skills
- Highly-developed oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively engage with senior executives in business, government and education sectors
- Experience in developing and securing funding opportunities (grants, sponsorships, or philanthropic investments)
- Proven experience as a change agent, with strategic vision and experience in developing a new organisational function, business transformation or improvement program
- Experience working collaboratively across the organisation to establish a strategic direction and lead sustainable business growth
- Interest and/or work experience in Asia, ideally demonstrating some general knowledge on Asia / international relations
- Established professional network in Melbourne in corporate, government and education sectors (desirable)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) Systems (desirable)
- Ability to travel interstate and overseas when required
- Ability to work before/after standard business hours

Internships
Asia Society Australia offers a dynamic internship program for final year or Masters students studying arts, communications, international studies, event management, or related fields.
Our internship program is designed to provide practical vocational experience, training, and opportunities to research, plan and participate in our world-class events and programs.
Interns work 1-2 days per week in Sydney, Melbourne or virtually. This program attracts a large number of outstanding candidates and is highly competitive.
We are not currently recruiting interns.
