Henry Kissinger opens new China Center with Kevin Rudd

Henry Kissinger to launch new China Center with Kevin Rudd With a phalanx of high-profile speakers, expert discussions, and innovative analyses, the Asia Society will launch its new Center for China Analysis on October 3.
Anchored in the Asia Society Policy Institute of the Asia Society, the Center for China Analysis (CCA) aims to be a global leader for policy-relevant, objective analysis of China’s politics, economy, and society, and its foreign and security policy impact on Asia and the world.
The launch activities will begin at 2 pm on October 3, with keynote presentations by former U.S. National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger and The Hon. Dr. Kevin Rudd AC, President & CEO of the Asia Society and Asia Society Policy Institute, and 26th Prime Minister of Australia.
The launch will also feature the Center’s team of experts on China’s politics, economy, foreign policy, and society. “I am proud to formally launch the Center for China Analysis (CCA),” said Kevin Rudd, the Founding Chair of the Center, who is a world-renowned expert on China.
“The Center for China Analysis is an initiative I have personally supported whole-heartedly from its inception. We have assembled an outstanding group of China analysts, and I look forward to working with them to develop policy-relevant, objective and independent analysis on China and its impact on Asia and the world.”
The Asia Society has also appointed Dr. Bates Gill, a renowned American Sinologist, as the first Executive Director of the Center for China Analysis, who will work closely with Jing Qian, the Managing Director of CCA, to oversee the operation and execution of the Center’s strategic goals.
“Bates brings a unique combination of world-class China expertise and extensive institutional leadership experience,” Kevin Rudd said. “For more than 30 years—as a scholar, public intellectual, policy advisor, and board member, including with some of the world’s leading think tanks and universities—Bates has consistently delivered perceptive and balanced insights on China and Asian affairs.
I am delighted he has joined us at such a critical time for understanding China’s role in an era of growing great power competition.” More information on Bates Gill and his appointment can be found here. The Center’s launch will feature its current leadership and working team of full and part time fellows and associated researchers in its five research pillars: Domestic Politics; Economy and Technology; Foreign Policy and National Security; Climate, Energy, and Environment; and Society, Culture, Public Health, and Education.
