Key principles for member institutions of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) (BOCHK) Group, including the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, the Southeast Asian institutions, BOC Credit Card (International) Limited, BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited, BOCHK Asset Management Limited, BOCI-Prudential Trustee Limited, and Po Sang Securities and Futures Limited.

Purpose

Offers guidelines to promote sustainable development through environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management.

General Key Points

BOCHK Group should:

  • Formulate policies in accordance with local laws and regulations and international best practices for sustainable development. 
  • Strictly comply with the laws and regulations and the requirements of regulators.
  • Operate in accordance with relevant sustainability policies and principles.
  • Strictly comply with international, national, and regional environmental protection laws and relevant business regulations.
  • Not support or fund activities that deliberately violate environmental laws and regulations.

BOCHK Group should:

  • Balance stakeholders’ interests with impacts on the environment, society, and economy.
  • Maintain communication with customers, workers, investors, suppliers, and communities to gather opinions. 
  • Provide inclusive products and convenient services to benefit economic development and communities' livelihoods
  • Protect the elderly and less privileged communities. 
  • Value communities and promote community development with relevant organizations.
  • Promote a range of charitable and community activities.
  • Encourage workers to participate in volunteer community work.
Key Points on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment

BOCHK Group should:

  • Incorporate climate-related risk management procedures to identify, measure, monitor, report, control, and mitigate risks.
  • Conduct environmental due diligence in lending and other business activities.
  • Promote environmental protection, including business activities that improve the environment.
