VIEW EVENT DETAILSHosted by Asia Society Northern California Young Professionals Group and The Red Lantern: Bay Area Asian Cinephiles
On the heels of Aung San Suu Kyi's election to the Burmese parliament, The Red Lantern: Bay Area Asian Cinephiles and Asia Society Northern California's Young Professionals Group (YPG) will co-host a screening of Luc Besson's (La Femme Nikita, The Professional) biopic The Lady, starring Michelle Yeoh as Suu Kyi — General Secretary of Burma's National League for Democracy, former political prisoner, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
The Lady is an epic story about how an extraordinary couple and family sacrifice their happiness at great human cost for a higher cause. This is the story of Aung San Suu Kyi and her husband, Michael Aris. Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime, their love endures until the very end. A story of devotion and human understanding set against a background of political turmoil which continues today, The Lady captures the quest of the woman who is at the core of Burma's democracy movement.
Please join us for Happy Hour at the Pig and Whistle Bar and Restaurant at 6:00pm before the movie. The movie will start at 8:00pm.
