Established in 2018 by Hong-Kong-based cellists Letty Poon and Juanita Wong, Pacific Cello Orchestra Hong Kong (PCO) is a summer music program for cellists of advanced levels under the age of 18, aiming to share the pure enjoyment of music and to provide them with the rare chance of a professional music-making experience. In the past years, PCO performed at the historical site Tai Kwun, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, as well as Zhong Shan Cultural Centre in Guangdong. On this occasion at the Asia Society Hong Kong, PCO will perform repertoires written particularly for cello ensemble by Jean Françaix and Rachel New, arrangement of Gavottes from J.S. Bach’s momentous solo suite for cello, as well as three celebrated short pieces originally written for solo cello and piano/orchestra by Dvořák and Saint-Saëns, featuring three soloists, Kin Chen, Jennifer Hui, and Erica Wong, who are alumni of PCO. Members of PCO are competent and dedicated musicians, whose performances are no doubt an inspiration. May the power of cello revitalize our tiring souls and the long-suppressed spirits!
