Arts & Culture Benefit 2019
Celebrating Art and Connecting Communities
Spotlighting new exhibitions and arts programming, the celebration started with roof garden cocktails, where Hong Kong artists from our upcoming exhibition, To See the Forest and the Trees, caught up with fellow artist (and for some, former-professor) Choi Yan-chi (Hon Chi-fun's life partner) over wine and cheese. Guests mingled to the night's playlist of classic Cantonese pop songs by Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung before making their way to dinner in the Jockey Club Hall.
The artistic dinner menu was specially designed by AMMO Chef Cyrus So, with each course themed after a pictorial element: Dot, Line, Surface and Form. Each table was named after specific work relating to the Hidden Forests summer festival, or characters in ASHK's chamber opera Mila. Thanks to Polaroid, guests could be photographed to receive instant mementos of their evening.
Dinner guests were entertained with video highlights from past ASHK programming, live performances from soprano singer Jasmine Law and pianist Linda Yim, and the highlight of the evening: a live auction led by auctioneers from Phillips with prizes including a private tour of teamLab Borderless (courtesy of Asia Society Japan Center), VIP Tickets to the American premiere of Mila (courtesy of Asia Society Northern California), and rare porcelain plates designed specially by artist Yoshitomo Nara for Asia Society on the occasion of his 2015 solo show, Life is Only One.
100% of funds raised went towards the Arts and Culture Fund: future programming costs at the center, where the vast majority of exhibitions and events and free and open to the public. In addition to the live auction, an online fundraiser also allowed supporters to bid on silent auction items on the platform Givergy until June 30, 2019.
