Hatha Yoga includes the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises), which helps in bringing peace to the mind and body, and preparing the body for deeper spiritual practices such as meditation. Dr. Davender Singh will begin the yogic practice with a prayer or prayerful mood to enhance the benefits of the practice, followed by suksma vyayama (loosening practices) to help increase micro circulation. In addition to the various yogasanas (yoga postures), Dr. Singh will lead kapalabhati, a breathing practice that purifies the frontal air sinuses, and is useful in treating cold, sinusitis, asthma and bronchial infection. It rejuvenates the whole body and keeps the face young and vibrant. The class will also include pranayama and dhyan (meditation).
The main purpose of paranayama is to purify the principal channels that carry energy called nadi’s. It induces tranquility, helps to improve concentration, increases vitality and lowers levels of stress and anxiety. Dhyana or meditation is an act of continuous contemplation. It helps the practitioner eliminate negative emotions like fear, anger, depression, anxiety and instead develop positive emotions.
