HONG KONG, December 6, 2016 – Paul Clark, professor of Chinese, University of Auckland, gave an insightful view on China’s Cultural Revolution era by focusing on the cultural production during that period. Rather than advocating this period as a period of greyness and suffering, Clark emphasized on the revolution as a representation of “a point in a path of modernization of Chinese culture that continues to today.” Drawing on the eight model performances, film production and the development of underground cultural activities, Clark illustrated his presentation with images of the era to help paint details of the cultural landscape that continued to finding a Chinese route to modernization, which helped to lead the country’s modern culture development to today.
