HONG KONG, August 23, 2016 — In this talk, Stanford University history professor and author Gordon H. Chang gave a fascinating account of the history of U.S. preoccupation with China, arguing that "the United States has a particular and peculiar obsession with China almost right from the beginning." Professor Chang hoped that through a better understanding of the turbulent history of U.S.-China relations, people could help furthering the bilateral relations by focusing less on the negative aspects and finding ways to move forward peacefully and and constructively.  (1 hr. 13 min.)
