Efforts at financial reform have stymied because bankers, politicians and regulators have accepted the suggestion that making the banking system safer would require sacrificing lending and economic growth. In The Bankers' New Clothes, co-author Professor Anat Admati disputes this claim — and many others in the debate — as invalid and dangerous, instead arguing that the financial system exposes the public to unnecessary risks and distorts the economy. She argues that if the political will can be found, much can be done to make it safer and healthier without sacrificing any of its benefits.

Professor Anat Admati is George G.C. Parker Professor of Finance and Economics at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. A leading expert on corporate governance and banking, she has written extensively on related topics such as information dissemination in financial markets, trading mechanisms, portfolio management and financial contracting. Since 2010, Professor Admati has been particularly active in the public policy debate on financial and capital regulation, and has testified or spoken before the U.S. Federal Reserve, regional Federal Reserve Banks, the U.S. Congress, the Bank of England, the UK Independent Commission on Banking and the Basel Committee on Bank Supervision. Professor Admati received her BS from the Hebrew University and her MA, Mphil and PhD from Yale University.
