Wine & Wisdom Series: History of Modern Korean Politics 101
September 19, 2023 — Asia Society Korea's Monthly Lecture series kicked off its fall season special, the “Wine and Wisdom Series,” with an intimate gathering at LOTTE Hotel Seoul’s Pierre's Bar. Dr. Go Myong Hyun from the Asan Institute for Policy Studies led an engaging Q&A session demystifying Korean politics, covering a spectrum of topics. From the significance of political parties in South Korea to the inner workings of the nation's alliances and the evolving role of the Korean presidency, the discussion fostered a deeper understanding of modern Korean politics against the backdrop of Korea’s unique historical and cultural context. Attendees, which included Asia Society Korea’s Honorary Ambassador Members, enriched the conversation with their curiosities, making the evening a true exchange of wisdom and ideas.
Dr. Go Myong-Hyun is a senior research fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. Previously, Dr. Go was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research applies quantitative perspectives to traditional and non-traditional security issues, with special focus on North Korea, sanctions enforcement, and security and strategic dimensions of technology.
