Significance and Meaning Behind Buddhist Architectures
HONG KONG, October 14, 2014 — Citing the misuse and lack of understanding of Buddhist heritage sites, Vikram Lall, an architect and the author of The Golden Lands, delivered an evening presentation at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. Reflecting on the lack of architectural knowledge of archaeologists, historians, and antiquarians who studied Buddhist heritage sites, Lall explained his original intent in pursuing this study.
With the use of diagrams and photographs, Vikram Lall enlightened the audience with the religious significance and architectural stratagems of various Buddhist heritage sites located in Southeast Asia. Stressing that the reconciliation of the academic studies of Buddhism and architecture is not a step backward but an encouragement of greater vigor, Lall ended with one of his latest design, the Buddha Smitri Park, a work reflecting both his religious and architectural ideals.
