Members' Connection Night
HONG KONG, October 31, 2017 — Over sixty members attended our Members’ Connection Night networking event and enjoyed a relaxing evening of free-flow wines and art appreciation. The evening also featured a harp performance by Katie Lo, the 1st Runner-up for the Performing Artist category for the Student of the Year Awards organized by Young Post, South China Morning Post.
The performance was follwed by a docent-led tour of our current exhibition The Hong Kong Jockey Club Presents — Painting Her Way: The Ink Art of Fang Zhaoling that highlighted a selection of ink paintings and calligraphy by the distinguished female artist Fang Zhaoling. After having received both the Western-style education newly available to a modern woman and the master-disciple training of a traditional Chinese painter, Fang developed a personal style of remarkable originality. Her sustained artistic achievements and contributions to modern Chinese culture also shed light on women’s changing roles in the twentieth century. The exhibition, as part of Asia Society Hong Kong Center’s 20th Century Chinese Female Artist Series, is guest curated by Kuiyi Shen and Julia F. Andrews, with Joyce Hei-ting Wong as assistant curator.
The evening concluded with some lucky members going home with exciting prizes, including a catalog of Fang’s exhibition, Heritage Revealed, published by Asia Society Hong Kong Center, and JW Marriott Hong Kong dining vouchers.
