Jim DeMint on Washington's Policy Debates
HONG KONG, May 21, 2014 — Jim DeMint, current President of the Washington, DC-based think tank The Heritage Foundation, made his first trip to Hong Kong for a luncheon presentation here at Asia Society Hong Kong Center. His talk centered on current policies of the United States such as tax reform, government spending, and foreign trade agreements.
The former South Carolina Senator took a conservative stance on these and other policy issues, looking into centralization and what he perceives to be the reasons behind stagnation in Congress. DeMint also explained how, in his view, "the big-government concept" affects the policy-making of both Democrats and Republicans alike. Citing reasons such as too much centralized management, DeMint sought to explain the reason behind the dysfunctionality of the current Washington government.
