How Traditional Chinese Cultures Are Cultivated in Chinese Cities
HONG KONG, July 3, 2014 – To understand Chinese cities and its traditional cultures on buildings, we should first understand Chinese writing. ‘’The Chinese Writing System is important that it is a real thing which carries the real significance,’’ stated by today’s presenter, Shiqiao Li, Weedon Professor in Asian Architecture, School of Architecture, University of Virginia. His experience of studying in China and working in the US provoked him to rethink the Chinese intellectual trajectory in the past one hundred years, also enabled him to compare the construction and planning in different countries. In his presentation, he listed out several inspiring books to illustrate his idea of culture embedded in the text, not the object or materials.
