Heritage Revealed - Book Launch
HONG KONG, December 9, 2014 - Joined by the architectural conservationists, historians, the Asia Society team and supporters, the Heritage Revealed book launch celebrated the continuous hard work contributed by the Heroes of Asia Society – creative talents who revitalized the Society’s Hong Kong Center from its original unkempt, decaying condition to the vibrant organization it is today.
Opened by Ms. S. Alice Mong, Executive Director of Asia Society Hong Kong Center, the launch was followed by an insightful presentation given by Dr. Hoyin Lee and Ms. Katie Cummers about the history and revitalization process of the Center, which previously served as Former Explosives Magazine Compound in the British military since the late 19th century. Due to the long-standing history of the Center’s location, many have acquainted with the site in one way or another – from adventures of exploring the abandoned historical site driven by youth mischief, to professional affiliations former and current staff at the Asia Society share. These experiences were shared fondly from guest speakers including Mr. Danny Tapa, a former member of the Gurkha brigade in the British military, Asia Society’s Co-Chairman Mr. Ronnie Chan, and generous sponsors for the Heritage Revealed book project, Mr. Hans Michael Jebsen and Mr. Merle Hinrich.
The night ended on a high note, with guest speakers, contributors of the book and other executives of Asia Society Hong Kong Center toasting to mark the official launch of Heritage Revealed.
