Asia Society Art Gala 2015
HONG KONG, March 11, 2015 - Asia Society’s third annual Art Gala honored four exceptional contemporary artists on March 11 at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center and Conrad Hotel Hong Kong. The event coincided with Art Basel Hong Kong and celebrated contemporary Asian art and with as a month-long program of artist talks, screenings, and discussions at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. Hosted by Peggy Loar, Interim Vice President for Global Arts and Culture and Museum Director, Asia Society, New York; and S. Alice Mong, Executive Director of Asia Society Hong Kong Center, the celebratory evening included a cocktail reception and preview of auction artworks at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center.
Leading collectors, artists, Museum professionals, gallerists, and dignitaries from around the world, as well as Asia Society Trustees and patrons, gathered to celebrate acclaimed artists Shahzia Sikander, Do Ho Suh, Wucius Wong, and Xu Bing for their significant contributions to contemporary art. A seated dinner and live auction were followed by a special presentation that recognized the night’s honorees for their unique contributions to art. The honorees were introduced by Hammad Nasar of Asia Art Archive, Doryun Chong of M+, Dr. Jenny So of Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Asia Society Trustee Emeritus Jack Wadsworth, all long-time advocates of each artist. Highlights from the benefit auction include unique works by world-renowned artists Izumi Kato, Leung Kui Ting, Tuan Andrew Nguyen, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Wang Keping, and Zhang Xiaogang.
