About the India Centre
Asia Society is the leading global organization working to strengthen relationships and promote understanding among the people, leaders, and institutions of Asia and the United States. We seek to enhance dialogue, encourage creative expression, and generate new ideas across the fields of arts and culture, policy and business, and education.
On June 28, 1956, John Davison Rockefeller 3rd founded Asia Society, a nonpartisan, nonprofit educational institution. With 10 offices throughout the US and Asia (in Hong Kong, Houston, Los Angeles, Manila, Melbourne, Mumbai, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, and Washington DC) Asia Society offers its members unique opportunities to connect globally. Each Centre makes a unique contribution to the Society as a whole, in the variety and breadth of its activities, programmes, members and audience.
Asia Society India Centre, inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in March 2006, is a forum for inter-Asian and US connections and exchange. With a multidisciplinary focus, the Centre offers relevant and timely programmes on social issues, business, policy, arts and culture that build a nuanced understanding of emerging trends and issues.
As a multidisciplinary institution, the Asia Society India Centre explores, explicates, and nurtures complex relationships between the rich past and the dynamic future of Asia. Our programmes examine the nexus of ancient traditions and current practices, and present a range of events ranging from art exhibitions to lectures and discussions. It is through the Asia Society India Centre that you can get to know leading Asian figures in business, policy, or cultural affairs.
