Real Work Will Begin Day After Trump-Kim Summit
Lindsey Ford on MSNBC
On June 9, 2018, APSI Director of Political-Security Affairs Lindsey Ford, Sung-Yoon Lee of the Fletcher School, and Lanhee Chan of Stanford University spoke with MSNBC about the long-term ramifications of the Trump-Kim summit in Singapore.
Ford stresses that the “hard work actually begins on June 13,” when officials will have to start to “implement whatever sort of statement of principles it is that the President comes out of this summit with. And that’s really where all the potential pitfalls are,” in navigating the step-by-step process of monitoring and managing North Korea’s denuclearization process.
Ford explains that regardless of the outcomes of the summit, Kim Jong Un will “with a stronger hand than he went into it with,” having gained international standing as a world leader.
