Meera Gopal
Senior Program Officer, Climate

Meera Gopal is Senior Program Officer, Climate at the Asia Society Policy Institute. Her work at ASPI will focus mainly on coordinating the work of the High-Level Policy Commission on Getting Asia to Net Zero and analyzing climate finance needs and gaps in the Asia Pacific region.
Before joining ASPI, Meera worked with the Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE) as an environmental litigator and policy researcher in India, having worked on issues relating to access to environmental and climate justice across the country. Her specific area of focus was the energy sector in India. She was also closely involved in policy research on India’s climate policy. In 2021, she moved to the United States to pursue post-graduate studies at the Fletcher School at Tufts University. At Fletcher, Meera focused on the intersection of climate law and policy with international trade and investment. She also worked at the Climate Policy Lab of the Center for International Environmental Resource Policy (CIERP) on a project on framework climate legislations.
Meera holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in International Law from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and a B.A. LLB (Hons) degree from the National University of Advanced Legal Studies in India. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Malayalam, and is working on building skills in Spanish. She loves to learn new languages, and Mandarin is next on her list. In her spare time, she prefers to go on hikes around the city and catch up on her fiction reading.
