Let's talk about Racism.
1 July 2020—Asia Society Philippines and Manila House co-hosted a digital discussion entitled “We Need to Talk About Racism.”
The webinar featured different insights from Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, former US ambassador to the Philippines, one of the few high-ranking diplomats of color in the American foreign service; Vicente Rafael, a professor of History at the University of Washington in Seattle whose particular areas of interest includes race and ethnicity, and empire and colonialism; Lila Shahani, a journalist, academic, civil servant and former UNESCO Philippines secretary-general; Laura Verallo de Bertotto, an entrepreneur and intersectional feminist who also has a PhD Ethnic Studies candidate at the University of California, Berkeley; Joyce Mahlatini, a Zimbabwean yoga teacher living in Manila; and Kahlea Belonia a Filipino-American model.
