Experience the Magic of Holi: Where Colors, Music, and Friendship Unite!
Asia Society Philippines, in partnership with the Indian Cultural Association of the Philippines (ICAP), the Embassy of India in the Philippines, and SM by the Bay, proudly hosted Holi by the Bay 2024 at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City last March 23, 2024. This event was a celebration of the Indian festival Holi, which marks the beginning of spring and the triumph of good over evil. The joyous occasion turned the spotlight on the rich Indian culture through music, dance, vibrant colors, and delicious flavors.
The program began with an enthusiastic welcome from ICAP Co-Founding Trustee Shalini Saha, who expressed her gratitude towards Asia Society Philippines, the Embassy of India in the Philippines, SM by the Bay, and the event sponsors for making the festival possible in 2024. The Pasay City government also shared a message of support from Hon. Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, emphasizing the importance of learning the cultural significance of Holi and the opportunity it provides to strengthen camaraderie between Indian and Filipino communities through a better understanding of the diversity and sharedness in cultures.
Holi by the Bay 2024 featured spectacular dance performances, ranging from the traditional and cultural dances of India to modern hip-hop featuring the Filipino Bollywood Dance Group. Hosts Jasmine and Roshan officially kicked off the event by inviting the attendees to throw colored Holi powder, creating a kaleidoscope of colors while dancing to the youthful, festive Indian music mixed by DJ Rahul, Rav, and Mohit.
Apart from the vibrant atmosphere and exciting performances, attendees got a taste of culture through the food stalls that offered a wide variety of Indian comfort foods, such as fresh samosas, chicken biryani, pani puri, and sweet pastries. Guests also got a chance to experience the art of henna, getting temporary tattoos with beautiful, intricate designs on their hands.
There is nothing like a festival to bring people together, and Holi by the Bay was no exception. From the vibrant colors to the lively music, the event proved to be a true testament to the power of culture to unite people and foster a deep sense of camaraderie, no matter where we are from. At Asia Society Philippines, we are committed to supporting events like this that celebrate diversity and mutual understanding across cultures.
