On Tuesday, July 30, join us for an insightful discussion on "The Impacts of U.S.-China Relations on Science & A.I. Talent." Experts will examine the evolving landscape of U.S.-China relations and visa regulations against the backdrop of increasingly restricted migration flow between the two countries. Attendees will hear about how evolving dynamics between the United States and China influence talent mobility, research collaborations, and technological advancements. Speakers include Chenjian Li, physician scientist and a research fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University, and Mark Nitzberg, Executive Director of Berkeley’s Center for Human-Compatible AI. Alan Seem, Partner at DLA Piper, will moderate.
This program is a part of our Seeking Truth Through Facts U.S.-China Program Series, which focuses on new strategic frameworks for the bilateral relationship, plurilateral relationships, rebalancing trade, national security, technology, and climate change; as well as the global impact of the political and economic landscape.
This Executive Roundtable Program is for Innovator, Groundbreaker, Advisory Council, and Board Members and will be held on Tuesday, July 30 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Pacific in Silicon Valley.

SPEAKERS
Alan Seem's practice includes SEC-registered and Rule 144A/Regulation S securities offerings, mergers & acquisitions, venture capital and emerging growth companies, private equity investments, fund-related matters and going-private transactions. He also regularly advises companies and their boards of directors on corporate governance issues, including SEC/stock exchange compliance, board and management duties and responsibilities, environmental, social and governance (ESG) and other disclosure-related matters. He is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Dr. Chenjian Li is a physician scientist and a research fellow at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. Dr. Li was an associate professor at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, and then Aidekman Endowed Chair of Neurology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City. Dr. Li's scientific achievement is in the field of molecular and cellular mechanisms of neurological diseases, and therapeutic development to treat neurodegenerative diseases and cancer metastasis. He was a Berggruen Scholar on Bio-Ethics, a member of the China Advisory Board of Cornell University, Eli Lilly and Company, and Rhodes Scholar Selection Committee. Between 2013 and 2018, Dr. Li was the Vice Provost, Executive Dean of Yuanpei College, and Associate Dean of School of Life Science at Peking University, Beijing. Parallel to research, Dr. Li is devoted to education reforms for the next generation of global-citizen leaders. Dr. Li is also a prominent public intellectual with influential publications on open society, education, science and medicine in China and the U.S. He received numerous awards for excellence in research and teaching, including a 2001 National Book Award for the translation of Richard P. Feynman’s book into Chinese.
Dr. Mark Nitzberg is the Executive Director of Berkeley’s Center for Human-Compatible AI, Head of Strategic Outreach at Berkeley AI Research (BAIR) Lab and Director of Technology Research. He is a computer scientist and entrepreneur focused on the effects of AI and related technologies on our society, economy and democracy. In addition to serving as Director of Technology Research at BRIE, he also serves as Executive Director of UC Berkeley Center for Human-Compatible AI and Head of Strategic Outreach for Berkeley AI Research. Mark works on understanding and anticipating the societal and economic impacts of technology, and its corresponding benefits, risks and governance. He is co-author of Solomon’s Code — an examination of AI and how it reshapes human values, trust, and power around the world — and has published a number of pieces on AI impacts and governance.
In industry, Mark’s experience is diverse, having built technology ventures applying AI in health care, finance, education and data analytics for developing regions. Among these, he was founding CTO of Smartleaf, which automates the management of investment portfolios at scale. He brings a first-hand perspective to the future of technology, platforms, fintech, and more. An underlying theme of much of his work has been the practical application of technology to address market needs in human-centered and sustainable ways, or the use of technology for beneficial social impact and quality-of-life improvements.
