Yiyun Li: Kinder than Solitude
VIEW EVENT DETAILSMeet the Author
ASNC, Litquake, and the Mechanics’ Institute are pleased to feature Yiyun Li and her newest novel, Kinder than Solitude. A gripping tale of suspense and a penetrating study of personal corruption and moral ambivalence, the book moves back and forth between America today and China in the 1990s to tell the story of three friends whose lives are changed by a murder one of them may have committed.
Yiyun Li published her first collection, A Thousand Years of Good Fortune, in 2006, winning the Frank O’Connor Award, California Book Award, and Guardian First Book Award. Her stories and essays have been published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Zoetrope: All-Story, Best American Short Stories, O Henry Prize Stories, and elsewhere. Born in Beijing and now living in the U.S., Li was selected by Granta as one of its “21 Best Young American Novelists under 35” and named one of the “Top 20 Writers under 40” by The New Yorker. Newsweek called her “one of America’s best young novelists.”
“This is an exceptional novel and Yiyun Li has grown into one of our major novelists.” — Salman Rushdie
