The 10th Asia Roundtable: The Contest for Pacific Island Nations
A global geopolitical competition
The Pacific Islands are at the heart of global geopolitical competition. The major powers competing for control of the Pacific Islands, are primarily wanting to increase their influence, gain strategic benefits, and exploit abundant natural deposits like fishery, minerals, and prospective hydrocarbon reserves. The Pacific Islands understand their importance but find it difficult to navigate through this complicated environment of global power competition aimed at gaining influence and advantage. Against this backdrop, the 10th Asia Roundtable discussed the changing geopolitical and geostrategic landscape of the Pacific Islands in a conversation with Shruti Pandalai, moderated by Amb. Amit Dasgupta.
