Event Recap: Executive Roundtable on The U.S. and China in The Generative AI Race
On July 24, 2023, Asia Society Northern California hosted an executive roundtable on the U.S.-China Generative A.I. Race in Palo Alto. Graham Webster (Editor-in-Chief of DigiChina at Stanford University) and Yan Luo (Partner at Covington and Burling LLP) were speakers. Allan Seem (Partner at DLA Piper) delivered the welcoming remarks.
After brief introductions from the speakers discussion began with participation from roundtable attendees. Discussion covered the efforts to interrupt AI technology proliferation across borders and how this action hinders further development. Subjects broached also included current AI projects in China, the possibility of disaggregating American tech giants in favor of government funded initiatives, and the regulatory dilemmas created by AI technology.
This executive roundtable was the first event of seven in the Seeking Truth Through Facts U.S.-China Program Series, which focuses on new strategic frameworks for the bilateral relationship, plurilateral relationships, rebalancing trade, national security, technology, and climate change; as well as the global impact of the political and economic landscape.
