As Parasite made Oscar, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Awards history, Asia Society honored Asian filmmakers and talent in a series of panels at Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2020, moderated by Academy Governor-at-Large and Executive Producer of The Joy Luck Club, Janet Yang.

The first of three panels, “Producers: Women Hold Up Half the Sky at Sundance”, featured veteran producers of numerous Sundance films: Nina Yang Bongiovi and Mynette Louie, and film financier Naja Lockwood.

The second panel, “Directors: Telling Original Stories”, featured directors Edson Oda, writer/director of Nine Days (U.S. Dramatic Competition), and Bao Nguyen, director of Be Water (U.S. Documentary Competition).

“Actors: Cutting it on the Big Screen” featured actors in this year’s U.S. Dramatic Competition films at Sundance. They are Chris Pang (Palm Springs, Crazy Rich Asians), Benedict Wong (Nine Days, The Martian, Avengers: Endgame), and Daniel Dae Kim (Blast Beat, Always Be My Maybe, Hellboy).

The three panels were followed by an invite-only soirée attended by Asia Society VIPs and Hollywood talent.

Last year’s panel featured The Farewell director Lulu Wang.

Presented by Asia Society Northern California, Asia Society Southern California, and Harbour
