Fangzhou Zhang’s 8th Grade Novice-High Chinese Class — 'Let's Start a Ping Pong Club'
TEQ Instructional Videos for Chinese Language Teachers
In this Chinese class, Fangzhou Zhang’s 8th graders from the Montclair Kimberley Academy, New Jersey, are learning the unit "Sports." In this specific lesson, they are talking about starting a ping pong club in their own school. In this class, the students will watch a video of students from China talking about their school's ping pong club in China, write and present a letter to the principal to request to start a ping pong club in New Jersey, and have a meeting with school board members through role-playing to discuss the possibility of starting a ping pong club in their own school. This Chinese class has demonstrated how learning can “go real” to make connections with the real world and the students' lives.
