Mapping the Nation pulls together nearly a million economic, demographic, and education data points to reveal that our nation is becoming increasingly global. It also shows the needs of the global innovation age are increasingly unmet by our education system.

Support Local Schools

A century ago, education in the United States was heavily focused on agriculture. Sixty years ago, it shifted to a manufacturing paradigm. Now the world has changed again, as data shows: 95% of consumers live outside of our borders; nationally jobs tied to international trade have grown on average, more than 100% over the past twenty-year; and one in five jobs is tied to international trade. Cultural and linguistic diversity is evident in cities, suburbs, and most rural communities. Preparing a rising generation for the new global economic and civic environment is not the responsibility of schools alone. Government, communities. policymakers, businesses, and civil society must come together to support a common vision that prepares students and teachers for our future.
