Author Fatima Bhutto discusses the global stories of our times. Her two latest books New Kings of The World: Dispatches from Bollywood, Dizi and K-Pop consider the massive popularity of Indian, Turkish and Korean popular culture. From a different perspective her new novel, The Runaways, (U.S. edition forthcoming August 2020) provides us a deeply moving story that author Gary Shteyngart describes as transformative and Pankaj Mishra says is "an illuminating guide through the great disorder of our times." Bhutto is a sensitive chronicler of our global experience and will explore her observation at this in this time of a shared pandemic.
Fatima Bhutto was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and grew up between Syria and Pakistan. She is the author of five previous books of fiction and nonfiction. Her debut novel, The Shadow of the Crescent Moon, was long listed for the Bailey’s Women’s Prize for Fiction and the memoir about her father’s life and assassination, Songs of Blood and Sword, was published to acclaim. In 2019 she published New Kings of the World: Dispatches From Bollywood, Dizi, and K-Pop. Her most recent book is The Runaways.
