Prioritizing Southeast Asia in American China Policy
August 1, 2023 — Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations and the 21st Century China Center at UC San Diego launch the Task Force on U.S.-China Policy report, Prioritizing Southeast Asia in American China Policy, which reflects what Southeast Asians want from the United States, and how they view U.S.-China competition in their region. Members of the Task Force include David Shambaugh, Gaston Sigur professor of Asian Studies, Political Science & International Affairs, and director of the China Policy Program at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University; Charlene Barshefsky, chair of Parkside Global Advisors and former U.S. trade representative; Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Karl Eikenberry, former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan; and Danny Russel, vice president for International Security and Diplomacy at Asia Society Policy Institute.
