HONG KONG, August 9, 2016 — In this Hong Kong premiere, the newly formed Philharmonia APA, under the baton of Sharon Andrea Choa, performs Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde ("The Song of the Earth") with a twist: The masterpiece is sung in Cantonese by mezzo-soprano Ning Liang and tenor Justin Lavender, with the original German-language lyrics replaced by the poems of Tang dynasty poets Li Bai, Qian Qi, Meng Haoran and Wang Wei.
