Hell in China
NEW YORK, March 15, 2023 — In conjunction with the Asia Society Museum's exhibition Comparative Hell: Arts of Asian Underworlds, Asia Society hosts a discussion on the conceptions of hell in China and the role these traditionally played in shaping the contours of the moral universe for many Chinese. Participants include former New York Times China correspondent and author of The Souls of China: The Return of Religion after Mao Ian Johnson and Rutgers University’s religion department chair Tao Jiang. Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations Deputy Director Mary Kay Magistad moderated the discussion. (1 hr., 14 min.)
