India

India is a critical player in the future of the Asia-Pacific region and stands at the center of what many consider a continuous Indo-Pacific region. Over the last quarter century, it has transformed itself into a rising global power. As one of the fastest growing major economies in the world and the third largest economy in Asia, it is a vital market and economic center of gravity. Even as it continues to face tremendous development challenges, it is buoyed by it democratic politics and an ambitious and entrepreneurial population. In recent years, India has also expanded and deepened its diplomatic engagement, especially with the United States and with countries in East Asia, and shown greater willingness to lead on global issues.

Working with Asia Society’s center in Mumbai, ASPI convenes major policy dialogues and public discussions, and contributes analysis and expert commentary designed to enhance India’s cooperation with the United States and its growing role and engagement with the region beyond South Asia.
