Peranakan & Fashion
VIEW EVENT DETAILSCelebrating the reopening of the Peranakan Museum in Singapore
The Peranakan culture, a result of international trade routes in Singapore and to the Malacca Straits, has created a unique identity in the Southeast Asian region, and had an influence in areas as diverse as food, architecture and home decoration, or jewelry. Fabric and fashion are possibly the most visible part. To celebrate the reopening of the Peranakan Museum in Singapore after 3 years of renovations, and the upcoming exhibition of celebrated fashion designer Andrew Gn at the Singapore Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), we have invited Kennie Ting, director of ACM and Peranakan Museum, as well as Andrew Gn, a Singapore-born long-term Paris resident, to express the vibrancy of Peranakan culture, and its relevance to today’s fashion world. With the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore to France,H.E. Ambassador Madam Foo Teow Lee will kick off the event with opening remarks. We will experience a virtual tour of the Peranakan Museum, as well as a cross-continent dialogue linking fashion and Asian history to Paris and the Singapore diaspora.
