Asia Society Announces Education Plans for 2023
The Center of Global Education has undergone important changes over the last year and we are grateful to our colleagues and friends who have supported us during this transition period. Along with a New Year comes the opportunity to build a new vision for Education at Asia Society. We are excited to share news about our recent work and plans for 2023.
Asia Society Education’s (ASEDU) commitment to global education remains central to our work. We are especially thankful to Dr. Anthony Jackson for realizing his vision for the Center for Global Education. We are thrilled to announce the launch of the 2nd Edition of Educating for Global Competence: Preparing our Students to Engage the World, which he co-authored with Veronica Boix Mansilla. This edition includes many new authentic examples of integrating global competence into curriculum, instruction, and assessment across subject areas.
Our team will continue to advance Chinese language education in the United States. We aim to make Mandarin learning mainstream in the U.S. by generating engaging, relevant, and approachable learning content about China. One way in which we are bringing this content to bear is through our new online Chinese language series, Mandarin Jumpstart. Through a partnership with iCanMandarin, we now offer courses for adult learners and students in grades 6-12.
Additionally, The National Chinese Language Conference (NCLC) has remained the most prominent annual convening of Chinese language educators in the United States and North America, bringing together over 1,000 leaders and practitioners in Chinese language and culture education. We are thrilled to continue this critical work by hosting the 16th annual National Chinese Language Conference (NCLC) in New York City in a hybrid format on April 28-29, 2023.
Finally, we have the unique opportunity to broaden the scope of our offerings to more fully align with Asia Society's purpose, which is to foster insight, encourage engagement, elevate regional voices, and inform and educate new audiences about Asia and the global Asian diaspora. We are excited to ramp up our programming focused on the Asian Diaspora both in New York City and online. Through a new initiative called Discover Asia, we will offer courses designed to teach multiple Asian languages, educate young people about the significant contributions made by the Asian diaspora globally, and grow public awareness of Asia's diverse artistic and cultural traditions. Stay tuned for more!
Once again, we thank you for your continual support. Please keep in touch and find out more about what we’re up to by following us on Twitter at @AsiaSocietyEDU and by signing up for our quarterly email newsletter at https://asiasociety.org/education/about.
Sincerely,
