Screen Asia: Australian Short Film Today 2017
VIEW EVENT DETAILSThis 90-minute program of 11 short films will open with Matthew Saville's A Writer and Three Script Editors Walk Into a Bar, a three-minute film on the agony of screenwriting. The program also includes, among other films, Bluey, a drama by Darlene Johnson about a troubled young woman who has lost her child; Habits, an animation by Kathy Sarpi about a woman in need of self-improvement; The Mother Situation, directed by well-known Australian actor Matt Day; The Dam, by Brendon McDonall, a drama about feelings between two lifetime friends that can no longer be contained; Identical, a mockumentary about identical twins, starring, written and directed by identical twins Mark Nichols and Brett Nichols; and Meat and Potatoes, by Arielle Thomas and Ellenor Argyropoulous, a dark comedy about a vegan woman who is starving in the Outback during the apocalypse.

About Australian Short Film Today
Australian Short Film Today showcases the talents of Australian short film makers. It has shown the early work of several Australian directors of short films who have gone on to become feature film makers for the international audience. They include Robert Luketic (Legally Blonde, 21, The Ugly Truth, and Killers), Gregor Jordan (Buffalo Soldiers, Ned Kelly), Emma Kate Croghan (Love and Other Catastrophes), Christina Andreef (Soft Fruit), Peter Duncan (Children of the Revolution), Andrew Lancaster (Accidents Happen), and Academy Award winning animator Adam Elliot (Harvie Krumpet).
Major support for Performing Arts and Culture programs comes from Nancy C. Allen, Ellen Gritz and Milton Rosenau, the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, and the Anchorage Foundation.
