The US delegation led by John McCain went to the Philippines to discuss with the President and Foreign Affairs Secretary the issues affecting both countries, and the continuing concerns about the West Philippine Sea.
The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed the safety of the 296 Filipino crewmembers of the Italian ship. Travel documents were immediately processed by the Embassy of Philippines in Rome for the repatriation of the crewmembers.
A series of consultations were attended by the ASEAN Countries and China, in which they assembled in Beijing to discuss maritime cooperation. This served as an opportunity for China and the Philippines to settle bilateral issues.
