Being sustainable and ecological is in everyone’s mind nowadays, and the contemporary art space is no different. Leading this movement in the contemporary art space is Yuko Hasegawa, Director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and Professor of Graduate School of Global Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. She has been a leader in the contemporary art world, introducing and opening the curious art world to the ordinary people through her writing and curating numerous global biennales. Asia Society Japan is honored to have Ms. Hasegawa for the Art for Breakfast in March.

For this program, Ms. Hasegawa will share her thoughts on the relationship between “Art” and “New Ecology”. She will discuss how artists and the art world in different countries are taking actions incorporating and executing this movement towards their works.

This event will be conducted in-person and online.

Speaker Bio

Yuko Hasegawa

Professor, Graduate School of Global Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts

Yuko Hasegawa is Director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and Professor of Graduate School of Global Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. She was Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. She completed a BA in Law from Kyoto University and an MFA in Art History from Tokyo University of the Arts. She has been honored with the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France (2015), the Ordem de Rio Branco, Brazil (2017), and Japan Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Award, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan (2020). She has curated numerous biennales in Istanbul (2001), Shanghai (2002), São Paulo (2010), Sharjah (2013), Moscow (2017), and Thailand (2021).
