Artist’s Work in New York and Tokyo | Ai Makita
VIEW EVENT DETAILSJuly 15 – Art for Breakfast 2021
Ai Makita, a visual artist, will join us from New York where she is having her first solo exhibition, “HYPERDIMENSION” at mh PROJECTS nyc. Ai is a visual artist based in both Tokyo and New York. After receiving her M.F.A. from Tokyo National University of the Arts in 2013, she’s received numerous awards, fellowships, and residency programs on both sides of the Pacific.
From the start of her career, Ai has represented living things and natural landscapes by using artificial mechanical objects like motorcycle engine parts or brass instruments as motifs. In order to create the image, she first combines different images digitally and render the same detailed images onto the canvas giving them an analogue human touch. It is a process where she is painting the parallel world that we live today.
From New York, Ai will take us on a journey of her art form and tell us how working in both Japan and New York has affected how she sees herself in the art world. Arts Committee member, Yoshihisa Kawamura, who has been supporting young and upcoming artists will host this program. Please join us online!
This event will be conducted online and is open to the public. Registration is required.
