Former President Clinton visits North Korea
"Although the U.S. government is playing down Bill Clinton's visit to Pyongyang as a 'purely private mission,' in fact the visit should mark a breakthrough in US-DPRK relations," says John Delury, Associate Director of the Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations. Following the release of two U.S. journalists, "hopefully much more will come—not only in terms of the nuclear negotiations, but also in the broader effort at normalizing North Korea's foreign relations. The positive momentum generated by Clinton's visit ... will give the Obama administration room to begin to craft a new approach to the Korean peninsula."
